December 7th 1996 - Mercer Arena, Seattle, Washington, USA

silverchair are growing up, and they seemed different to me now -- still cool, but different. Daniel is really skinny now, he looks unhealthy. After we were told to "please welcome...SILVERCHAIR!" everyone was screaming, but there was a 15-minute delay due to problems with their equipment. When they finally came out I almost had a fucking heart attack, I swear. There were lots of teenyboppers in the crowd going, "I love you Daniel!" "Marry Me!" and "Fuck me Daniel!" But don't worry, I smashed 'em around the mosh pit a few times! =) They deserved it!

Speaking of mosh pit, holy SHIT! I've been in lots of pits including Bad Religion, which I personally thought was pretty "hardcore," but this pit was UNBEARABLE! Seattle people are SO aggressive! I couldn't even breathe and I got kicked in the head so many times it sucked. Canadian moshpits are better because everyone's real nice and they help you out when you fall and stuff. And there aren't, like big fights. Nevertheless, I have to say I enjoyed myself IMMENSELY!

silverchair's new stuff is SO heavy and awesome. You can hear the influence of Tool and Helmet. "Cemetery" is a beautiful and gut-wrenching song. "Freak" is an AWESOME song. They played really well considering the technical problems.

Ben mooned us at the end -- surprise, surprise! It was hilarious!

I am so happy, I almost cried when silverchair went on stage! I have wanted to see them for over a year now. Bill Reed introduced silverchair in a Santa suit with a super soaker in hand. At first he was spraying the audience and he was going to get silverchair with it but there were technical difficulties so it took forever. During that time everyone was chanting "SILVERCHAIR!" When they finally took the stage Bill got Daniel really good! Daniel came out with huge glasses and Ben had no shirt on.

I don't know how they do it, but silverchair goes crazy and still gets it perfect. I was in the front row about two people to the right of Daniel. I was so fucking happy! Everyone kept pushing us -- I wanted to deck them. During one of the songs five or so people crowd surfed over my head. At one point some guy was sitting on my head! But it was worth waiting for an hour in the rain in a T-shirt and jeans and for another hour and a half inside!

Daniel did "Cemetery" by himself and everyone was looking at me weird because I knew the words! At one point between "The Door" and "Cemetery," Daniel was standing right in front of me and I was going crazy. I had my hands up in the air giving them the "you rock sign" and I know he was looking at me 'cause he smiled and kinda laughed, then everyone started doing it and he left. That was one of my favorite parts! All of their songs rocked! There was a huge pit during silverchair! Daniel was so happy he smilled the whole time (except when someone through something at him and it hit his shoulder). He mentioned South America and the bottles once, I guess it really pissed him off.

But the best was last. At the end of "Israel's Son" they were going crazy. Daniel got up on the drum platform and played his guitar with the drums, Chris played the drums with his bass, and Ben got off the platform and played for a second, then went to the side of the stage and mooned us before walking off with the back of his shorts down!

When Ben left, so did Chris, but Daniel stayed and was kneeling on the drum platform, then he fell off and kept making noise with the guitar and just stayed on the ground doing that for a bit, then left.

There was one bad thing about the concert -- there were people behind us literally having sex! The guards were just standing there looking at them with a flashlight.

As for the rest of the show, Eels kind of sucked -- their music was OK but there was no energy. Fun Lovin' Criminals were cool. They gave out energy, but they did not do much. Stabbing Westward was awesome! They came in black plastic outfits and two of them had Christmas lights around them. The lead singer kept coming over right in front of us and they threw water all over us. We were getting crushed so I guess there was a good pit! I thought Luscious Jackson really sucked. Super Deluxe was awesome, they played three acoustic songs.

I saw video cameras, recording things and tons of photographers, so you will see and/or hear some of it!

We get there and find our seats are CRAP=P so when the show starts we go look for better ones. The first band was The Eels, they were really good. We found pretty good seats but we eventually got kicked out. Up next were Fun Lovin' Criminals, who were also extremely good. We then found these other crappy seats but anything was better than our shitty actual ones, so we watched Fun Lovin' Criminals and Stabbing Westward from there. Stabbing Westward' fuckin ruled. They are so wicked live. Then we forced ourselves to watch Luscious Jackson. They had nice voices, they played a good live show, but I just didn't care for the music much. We knew silverchair was next so we searched forever to find good seats and we found them (if you had to have seats they were the best possible ones to have). Two guys from Super Deluxe came out to do a song and ended up doing three, but that was all right, they were good.

Then it was time for silverchair and it took 20 minutes for them to finally come out. It was well worth it. They came out with the circus music. Daniel apologised for being so late. He said they were eating dinner, and that their new album sucked. Daniel was so nice. He kept thanking the crowd after each song and he sounded so sincere.

After "Israel's Son" all three of them stood up on the drum stand and smashed up the drums good. Chris chucked his bass at them and Daniel fell over (still playing). Ben ran toward the audience and chucked his drum sticks and proceded to pull his pants down showing us his ass. He was very proud of himself!

Daniel continued to play after Chris and Ben were off stage, then dropped his guitar and walked off. They left me satisfied, yet still wanting more.

I was also at Deck the Hall Ball, and I think silverchair took the whole show! They were so intense. Daniel's headbanging got the crowd going, and his pointing to the crowd -- it's the best concert I've ever been to! I hope they plan to tour Seattle in April/May for their "Freak Show" tour. I'd sure be there in a minute!
